Sculpted in clay
Hymn to the beauty and fragility of the earth.
In the hands of a skilled sculptor, clay takes shape. Modeled like a ball, flattened, stretched, rolled, the shape of a body appears. Through meticulous chiseling movements, the shape of the body slowly appears. From the clay emerges the human form.
In front of the photographer's lens, clay comes to life. The form comes to life. A human emerges and life invades the scene. Movement imposes itself, expressions appear, tension is tangible. The intensity of gestures is palpable. Life occupies the void.
From clay emerges life
The theme of this exhibition is inspired by the aesthetics of Japanese Butoh dance, expressing social distress following the consequences of the Second World War.

Sculpted in clay: dichotomy between strength and vulnerability
The human body is a complex and powerful symbol, capable of communicating a wide range of emotions and ideas. It can communicate strength and vitality, embodying the very essence of human life and energy.
“Sculpted in Clay” is about the raw power and strength of the human body. Clay is a primal substance, shaped and molded by the hands of a creator. Likewise, the human body is shaped and sculpted by our experiences, our environment, and our own choices.
The images in this exhibition suggest that we are not simply passive receptacles, but creators of our own lives, capable of shaping our destiny.
When a model poses nude for artistic representation, they are vulnerable and exposed. The naked body is exposed for others to see, inviting scrutiny and judgment. This vulnerability communicates a sense of resilience and courage, as the model is willing to be seen and judged by others. By posing with energy and confidence, the model demonstrates strength and power, asserting their presence and taking control of their own image.
The nude body also communicates a sense of intimacy and connection. When we see someone naked, we are forced to confront our own vulnerabilities and insecurities. This sense of shared vulnerability can create a powerful sense of connection between the model and the viewer, allowing us to see the humanity and beauty in all.
“Sculpted in Clay” is a powerful symbol of strength, vitality and resilience. By embracing one’s own vulnerabilities, the photographs invite us to connect with them on a deeper level, creating a powerful sense of intimacy and understanding.
